How to choose a coworking space in Reims: neighbourhoods, criteria and prices

Looking for a coworking space in Reims and torn between a desk by the day, a monthly membership or a private office for your team? This guide covers the neighbourhoods worth looking in, the criteria to check before you sign and the three ways to use a space, with what that looks like in practice at Collab, right in the city centre.

Why coworking works in Reims

Reims has a rare advantage for a city of its size: Paris is 45 minutes away by TGV high-speed train. Many employees and freelancers have done the maths and settled here, keeping a foot in the capital two or three days a week. Demand for flexible workspaces near the station has grown markedly.

The other asset is the size of the city centre. You can cross central Reims on foot: the station, place d’Erlon, the cathedral, shops and restaurants are all less than ten minutes away. A well-located coworking space saves you from using the car every day.

Who works in these spaces? Freelancers (developers, graphic designers, consultants, writers), remote workers who can no longer stand the kitchen table, business founders, agencies of two to six people, sales reps passing through and organisations that need a local base. That mix is what makes a coworking space in Reims worthwhile: you meet people you would never come across by staying at home.

Neighbourhoods to look in

City centre and the station area

The most sought-after area, between Reims Centre station, place d’Erlon and the cathedral. Pros: everything on foot, trains to Paris, restaurants and shops, a professional image when you host clients. Cons: paid parking (you need a season ticket in a multi-storey car park), higher prices per square metre, sometimes awkward layouts in older buildings.

Clairmarais

The business district just behind the station, on the north side. Pros: recent office buildings, direct access to the platforms, more private offices. Cons: a more corporate feel, less neighbourhood life, and the same parking constraints as the city centre.

Bezannes

To the south-west, around the Champagne-Ardenne TGV station. Pros: easy parking, modern premises, Paris in 45 minutes without going through the centre. Cons: you drive everywhere, few restaurants, and a meeting in the city centre means a journey.

Croix-Rouge and the campus

The university district, in the south-west of the city. Pros: lower rents, close to the university if you recruit interns, direct tram to the centre. Cons: few actual coworking spaces, and an image less suited to professional clients.

Cormontreuil

The retail and business park to the south-east. Pros: free parking at the door, large premises available, quick access to the motorway. Cons: no neighbourhood life, no trains.

The 8 criteria that really matter

24/7 access

On a monthly contract, you should be able to come in on a Sunday morning or finish a project at 10pm. Check that badge access is included, not an extra.

Real fibre broadband

Ask for the actual speed and whether it is symmetrical. A video call that freezes is a day wasted. A wired connection (RJ45) is a bonus for photo and video professionals.

Phone booths

The criterion you forget during the visit and regret on your first client call in an open-plan space. Count the booths against the number of desks.

An included meeting room

How many hours a month, what rate beyond that, and how far ahead do you need to book?

Parking

In the city centre, nobody has private parking. The right question is: which multi-storey car park is less than five minutes’ walk away, and what does a season ticket cost?

Commitment and notice period

A three-month minimum and three months’ notice is common and reasonable. Beware of twelve-month commitments disguised as monthly prices.

All-inclusive costs

Heating, air conditioning, electricity, water, cleaning of shared areas, coffee, printing: all of this should be included in the price.

The atmosphere

Impossible to judge from a brochure, easy to feel on site. Who are the members? Is it quiet when it needs to be, lively when you want it to be? A trial day tells you more than a twenty-minute visit.

Coworking desk, private office or day pass: which to choose?

The day pass

For nomadic freelancers, sales reps passing through and remote workers who get out of the house one or two days a week. No commitment: you book when you need to. The downside: no fixed desk, you take your things home with you, and no access outside opening hours. It is also the best way to try out a space.

The dedicated monthly desk

For freelancers and full-time remote workers who want a real desk of their own, screen set up, with access at any hour. You enjoy the shared space without the cost of a private office. The trade-off: no door to close, so confidential calls happen in a phone booth.

The private office

For teams of two to twelve people, organisations handling confidential data, or those who need to talk to each other all day. You have your own door, your own key, your own layout. It is the direct alternative to a commercial lease, with no fit-out works and no three-year commitment.
